Selena Quintanilla's Father Suing Chris Perez Over TV Series
Last Friday, Abraham Quintanilla, the father of late Selena Quintanilla, filed a lawsuit against Chris Perez and the Endemol team. He is suing the widower to stop airing of a TV series based on their relationship.
In a document presented by the father, it states that in 1995, Perez and others entered on a legal agreement that subdivides the late singer's estate. It was said that the documents clearly state that Quintanilla Jr. is the sole owner of the name, signature, voice, photograph, and the like of Selena.
It seems like Perez and the production company violated a contract when they were making the series. The lawsuit also asserts that Chris Perez's book is unauthorized and that any adaptions are banned.
Interestingly, even though Selena is no longer alive, the star continues to make a name. Earlier this year, Endemol signed a contract with Perez to adapt his book To Selena With Love, which was published in the year 2012. The book is about his romance with Selena.
Previously, North America Endemol's CEO Chris Abrego was overjoyed with the release of the TV show:
"Selena is one of the most influential Latin artists of all time, and her legacy continues to live on long after her tragic death," He added "Chris Perez's beautiful book To Selena With Love captured their amazing life together and will make for the perfect foundation for a TV series that our team is currently developing for both English and Spanish audiences worldwide."
But from the look of it, Endemol might be singing a different tune because of the lawsuit. Perez, however, has yet to comment regarding the lawsuit. But after Selena's passing, Perez and the Quintanilla became very close and so there's a big chance that they will be able to resolve this issue with no trouble.
