"Without secrets, without the hoarding of knowledge and information, we can finally realize our potential," Tom Hanks' character said in the trailer of the upcoming thriller "The Circle". The film features Tom Hanks as an Elon Musk-alike founder of a tech company who claims that the key to human perfection is complete transparency.

The trailer shows lead actress Emma Watson in the character of Mae Holland interviewing for a job at "The Circle", which is obviously a Silicon Valley company that does something with big data and prompts easy comparisons to Google. "The needs of the society or the individual," an interviewer asks, "Should be the same," she promptly and confidently replied.

"It's the chaos of the web made elegant," Watson's character postulates when asked how she would describe the company. The film is directed by James Ponsoldt of "The Spectacular Now". James Ponsoldt adapted the film based on a bestseller by Dave Eggers, as reported by Deadline.

Based on the book of the same name, the film follows around Mae Holland, a new employee at "The Circle". Holland will discover the despicable side of "The Circles"  and its latest invention: a small, portable high-quality camera, according to Rolling Stone.

The company develops a product called "SeeChange" that allows anyone to easily broadcast themselves in real time to the world. With a controversial topic, Eggers's 2013 novel has been called "prescient" according to The Guardian for the way it reflects the society's obsession of placing cameras everywhere all the time. This is also a reflection of the soaring popularity of apps and tech products such as Snapchat and Facebook Live.

Meanwhile, John Boyega, Karen Gillan and Patton Oswalt co-star in the film, which EuropaCorp is releasing in theaters April 28 in the US. "The Circle" is produced by Gary Goetzman and Hanks for Playtone, Anthony Bregman for Likely Story and Ponsoldt.
