"The Leftovers" fans rejoice! An official premiere date was announced for the HBO drama series' third and final season.

"The Leftovers" Season 3 rounds up cast members Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Margaret Qualley, Jasmin Savoy-Brown, Amy Brenneman, Lindsay Duncan, Regina King, Kevin Carroll, Christopher Eccleston, Scott Glenn, Jovan Adepo, Janel Moloney, Liv Tyler, and Chris Zylka, ComingSoon.net listed. The final season will have eight episodes which were filmed in Australia and Texas.
Lindelof said that "The Leftovers" Season 3 departed from what the viewers have seen in the first two seasons. He said that moving the program's location to Australia provided a different air, as well as the obvious fact that the show is ending and "that's infusing it with a certain degree of energy that's different, perhaps, than the previous seasons," TVLine reported.
Season 3 of "The Leftovers" comes up short with the past seasons in terms of the episode numbers, ScreenRant noted. Seasons 1 and 2 both had 10 episodes, but fans should still be thankful that a final "The Leftovers" season was greenlit to properly conclude the story. However, Lindelof and Perrotta said that viewers shouldn't expect a clear-cut answer to the show's biggest mystery -- what caused the mass disappearance of the Earth's people?
Lindelof told SlashFilm last year that the entirety of "The Leftovers" Season 3 will build up towards the ending. He noted that the first two seasons ended on the Garveys picking themselves up and heading to a place that wasn't affected by the Departure - only to have it happen again. This made them realize that the safest place to be is being surrounded by their loved ones. The same thing, however, won't happen in Season 3.
Filming for "The Leftovers" Season 3 wrapped in Melbourne, Australia in September, according to the show's official Twitter account. Creative decision was the main driving force behind the series finale and not because it was canceled by the network, HBO Binge reported.
