'Westworld' Season 1 News & Updates - Season 2 Air Date & That Controversial Finale Explained
The 'Westworld' series is one of HBO's fresher shows currently ongoing. Since its pilot episode, the show has gathered millions of viewers and made its name in the industry.
"Westworld" currently finished its first season, and fans were shocked by the brutality and violence of it all. The 90-minute finale gathered over 2.2 million viewers in its network premiere.
These numbers don't even include the number of viewers during its replays, and the ones gathered from HBO's online platforms. All in all, it was reported that Westworld gathered an average of 12 million viewers, ranking it as the most-watched first season of any HBO original series. That's quite a feat.
The finale also opened up a lot of questions from the fans - which is a good thing, so fans will have something to look forward to on the next season. Yes, the show has been renewed for another well-deserved season. Unfortunately for the fans, the show will not return back on air until 2018.
Now, the long hiatus could be bad for the show, as fans might lose interest in the show as time pass by. However, show creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan are hoping this will not be the case when the revealed the news on Monday. In an interview with Variety, Nolan said:
"We won't be on the air until 2018. We started that conversation with the network when we were shooting episode two, and we realized the complexity of trying to write and produce the show at the same time."
He even added, "We both work in the movie business, as well. And in the movie business, the best that you can hope for with a film franchise is to turn around another installment in two or three years. So really on that schedule, we're doing great."
Apparently, "Westworld" is also known for biding their time. The show was approved by the network back in 2013; HBO set its premiere for 2015. However, for some reason, its premiere was moved to 2016.
The show was supposed to premiere back in January but was pushed again to a later date in October. With its booming results, seems like time is not much of a problem for "Westworld."
