The Game Awards 2016: Overwatch as the Best Game of the Year!

The annual awards for game related had finished over the weekend. Blizzard's popular multiplayer game, Overwatch takes home the bacon as the Game of the Year in this year's The Game Awards.

Blizzard's popular multiplayer game, Overwatch won the Game of the Year award in The Game Awards 2016, beating other nominees such as Electronic Arts' Titanfall 2, Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Bethesda's Doom. In a statement via Kotaku, Ray Gresko, who accepted the award on behalf of Blizzard said that they are happy to win the award for Overwatch. He said that they are proud of it and Overwatch delivers a message of diversity and heroism to people all over the world.

Alongside Overwatch, several game titles also managed to win an award. Niantic Lab's popular augmented reality game, Pokemon Go won the Best Mobile Game and Handheld category, beating the other nominees such as Supercell's Clash Royale, Capcom's Monster Hunter and Intelligent Systems' Fire Emblem Fates. Pokemon Go also won the Best Family Game award, beating Square Enix's Dragon Quest Builders and Insomniac Games' Ratchet & Clank.

Other games such as Dishonored 2 also won an award. Dishonored 2 won the Best Action/Adventure Game award, beating IO Interactive's Hitman and Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Sid Meier's Civilization VI won the Best Strategy Game award, surpassing Fire Emblem Fates, Stoic Studios' The Banner Saga and Firaxis Games' XCOM 2. Aside from game genre categories, categories that concern the game's structure such as narrative and art direction are also present. Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End won in the Best Narrative category And The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is dubbed as the Most Anticipated Game of the year.
