iPhone 8 Release Date, Specs And Rumors: Production Of OLED Display Meets Complications
Though Apple just recently released its newest version of its flagship phone, the Iphone 7s, rumors about the tech-mogul's upcoming iPhone 8 have begun to swell in massive proportions. Fixating on the phone's allegedly impressive specs, word has it that the iPhone 8 may include an imposing, cutting-edge OLED display.
According to a report by BGR, Apple is going to make use of OLED technology for its iPhone 8 display. The company also allegedly plans to get rid of the signature bezel, replacing it with a new button specifically built for Touch ID fingerprint recognition. Curved on both sides, the sleek OLED iPhone 8 is expected to dominate the smartphone market once it sees release next year.
However, while taking advantage of an OLED display would be great for Apple's iPhone 8 sales, Forbes reports that the company could have difficulty working on its OLED screens.
Apparently, Apple shares one of its biggest display suppliers with one of its main competitor's, Samsung. To avoid depending on the Samsung Display supplier, Apple has been working with other tech companies to help develop its OLED iPHone 8. These suppliers include Japan Display, Sharp, and LG Display.
However, in comparison with Samsung Display, LG Display has very a limited OLED production capacity. Meanwhile, Sharp been taking its focus away from OLED technology because of the cost of its production and Japan Display has been busy focusing on "Full Active" LCD Panels. Given the status of these suppliers, it seems like Apple may have trouble providing an OLED display for the iPhone 8.
Despite these hurdles, Apple will continue to procure the best technology for the newest model of its iPhone franchise. Aside from an OLED screen, other interesting features reportedly making their way to the iPhone 8 includes wireless charging, and even a 3D camera with a setup featuring the LG Innotek 3D dual-lens.
The iPhone 8 is rumored to see release sometime 2017.
