Ex-Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan Interviews with Raiders, 49ers and Bills
Mike Shanahan, former head coach for the Washington Redskins, has reportedly interviewed with several teams. According to NBC 4's Diana Marie Russini, Shanahan has "interviewed with the Oakland Raiders as well as with SF 49ers per sources." An AP report stated that the coach has also met with the Buffalo Bills.
The 62-year-old coach has reportedly met with the Raiders. Shanahan and the Raiders have history. Shanahan's first head coach position was with the Raiders back in 1988. During the 1989 season, the Raiders fired Shanahan after just four games. For years Shanahan claimed that the late Raiders' owner, Al Davis owed him $250,000. Despite the history, it looks like the Shanahan and the Raiders might have made up.
After he was fired by the Raiders, Shanahan became the offensive coordinator in San Francisco. He was then was hired to coach the Broncos, a post he had for 14 seasons. In 2010, he moved to Washington, where he was the head coach for four seasons. Shanahan was fired by the Redskins after the 2013 season. He took this season off.
In the other report, a source familiar with the Bills' search process stated that owners Terry and Kim Pegula has interviewed Shanahan, the two-time Super Bowl winning coach. This is the second time that Shanahan has reportedly interviewed with the Bills. The first time occurred in November 2009 when the Bills fired Dick Jauron during the middle of the season. At that time, Shanahan went with the Redskins.
Over a 20-year career as a coach, Shanahan has a 170-138 record. He won back-to-back Super Bowls in 1998 and 1999 with the Denver Broncos. He also won a Super Bowl ring as the offensive coordinator with the 49ers.
