On Friday, a study has been published by UK Business Watchdog Trading Standards which provides information that 99 percent of fake Apple chargers bought online did not pass the basic safety test. Apple finds more ways to solve this issue.

About 400 Apple chargers from different online retailers around the world were put through the test. Out of 400, only three passed the safety test. In short, 397 chargers are counterfeit which may have the potential to overheat and cause a fire.

"Criminals across the globe are using online platforms to lure you in with cheap deals for fake items, many of which are dangerous and have been known to overheat and cause house fires," Lord Toby Harris, the Chairman of Trading Standards said in a statement.

Here are the tips on how to spot a dangerous, counterfeit and phone charger. First, check the plug pins. There should be least 9.5 mm between the edge of the pins and the edge of the charger. There is a risk of electric shock when plugging or unplugging the charger from the socket gives a distance between the edge of the pins and the edge of the charger is less than 9.5 mm Second, check for the brand name, model, and batch number. Ensure that the markings have the output voltage and current ratings, as well as CE mark. Third, check for adequate warnings and instructions must be provided. It should have user instructions on how to run the charger safety and details of how to safely dispose of the charger when it is no longer required.

In October, Apple filed a lawsuit against online sellers. It was revealed that even reputable retailers might not always be safe. Some of the online sellers sold chargers and cable adapters at the cheap price.

In case buyers are in doubt of their connectors which they purchased online, Apple also has an own guide to help consumers spot bogus charger and adapters, as well as connectors. The best and safe way for it is buying it from Apple iStore or reliable retailer.
