Microsoft Launches Nokia 215; Cheapest Feature Phone With Facebook, Twitter, Opera and Other Apps
Microsoft is bringing an affordable solution to first time mobile users with Nokia 215 packed with internet-ready apps like Facebook, Bing, Twitter and more.
Microsoft is focusing on the vast audience in emerging markets with its all-new Nokia 215 phone. The new handset is the cheapest feature phone with internet browsing and internet related apps. The classic design with a physical numeric keyboard, a small 2.4-inch display and a camera gives the best first-time opportunity for novice mobile users.
The Nokia 215 is based on Java Series 30+ and has a QVGA display, 0.3-megapixel rear-facing camera with video recording support and data connectivity through 2G and EDGE networks. The feature phone also packs Bluetooth 3.0 for sharing pictures and files. Nokia 215 has some elements entertainment apps like MP3 player and FM radio.
Nokia 215's main attraction is its internet-ready feature. Microsoft provides Opera Mini web browser for basic internet searches. Microsoft's exclusive partnership with Opera brings this new mobile search app as an alternate to Bing Search, which is also available in Nokia 215. Other internet-related apps that come pre-loaded in the Nokia 215 are Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, MSN Weather and more.
The Nokia 215 comes in two variants, single SIM and dual-SIM. All features remain the same except for the additional SIM card slot in the dual-SIM model. Feature phones are known for their lasting battery life and the minimal features and large battery in the Nokia 215 justifies that. The handsets come with a 1,100mAh battery and lasts up to 29 days on standby on single-SIM and up to 21 days on the dual-SIM variant. The handset also has a handy LED torch.
Microsoft will start rolling out both SIM variants of the Nokia 215 in white, green and black colors later this quarter. Targeted markets for the handset are Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe. It will be available at a cheap price of $29.
