New Alipay Update Turns China Into Prostitution And Soft Porn Hub
Social media is a mixed bag when it comes to its contribution to the world. Some people use it to stay in touch with loved ones who are thousands of miles away; some people use it for malicious acts. There are people's lives that got saved because of Facebook or Twitter, and there are people who just flood them with selfies. Giving the world power to communicate almost instantly with everyone is a double edged sword.
This is practically how society works. Attractive people tend to become vainer when entering social media. On the other side of the wall, there are perverts and creeps who totally want to take advantage of vain people who post their images online. Women are mostly targeted, some react thru disgust, others take the opportunity to make money out of it.
Alibaba may have just stepped into the realm of a mutual relationship between people who need money and the ones who want to look at them with less to no clothes at all. The Chinese tech company has updated their popular electronic payment app, Alipay, to allow user video and image sharing. The update is called 'Circles', this feature is not much different from current social media services that focus on image and videos.
The story becomes creepier as Circles has become an open platform for women who want to earn extra by posting half or full naked photos of themselves. Of course, this became an instant hit among Chinese netizens. The outbreak of indecent pictures of women on Alipay has led to outrage on Chinese forums over the weekend, Weibo being the forefront.
Alibaba, however, has responded that they are taking measures to filter out malicious intents from Circles users. They also added that they are committed to the cause of positive social media environment.
