Movie star Jackie Chan has apologized to the public for his son Jaycee Chan's arrest in Beijing on drug related charges.

The "Rush Hour" star wrote on his microblog that he was both angry and shocked about the incident involving his son, according to BBC News.

"As a public figure, I am ashamed. As a father, I am very sad and his mother is heartbroken."

"I told Jaycee: if you have done something wrong, you must bear the consequences. As your father, I am willing to face the road ahead with you," Chan wrote.

Jackie Chan said that he hoped young people would learn from Jaycee's lesson and avoid drugs.

Jaycee Chan, along with his friend Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko Chen-tung, was arrested on Monday for testing positive for Marijuana use.

Jaycee Chan is facing criminal charges for consuming drugs. Drugs were also found in his apartment, according toThe Hindu.

Chan is under criminal detention pending  further investigations, the police said.

The Chinese state news agency Xinhua  had aired a story with many analysts criticizing celebrities who consume drugs and are a bad influence on their young fans, according to The Wall Street Journal.

"Artists need to devote their entire spirit to the pursuit of art, and need to be responsible to themselves, the industry and the people," the story mentioned Chinese director Zhai Junjie as saying.

42 artist management agencies in Beijing signed an agreement with the police last week promising not to recruit celebrities who consume drugs, reports BBC News.
