Players are on the roll to complete their Pokedex . Some prefer to complete them... with style.

The concept of Shiny Pokemon is not new to Pokemon players. A Shiny Pokemon refers to a Pokemon whose colors are different from the normal ones. This is considered as the rarest Pokemon encounter since there's only one in an eight thousand one hundred ninety-two encounters can players meet a shiny Pokemon. The Red Gyarados from the Gen 2 games is an exemption since it is part of the story.

In Pokemon Sun and Moon, it's easier to catch a shiny Pokemon. In Sun and Moon, there's a feature called Pokemon SOS. This lets Pokemon call out for help in the middle of a battle. According to Kotaku, in order to catch a shiny Pokemon in Sun and Moon, players will be needing a stock of potions and elixirs. They must bring the Pokemon to a low health WITHOUT killing it. This will cause the Pokemon to call out for help. Kill the reinforcements without killing the original Pokemon. Continue stalling so that the Pokemon will continuously use the SOS feature. The chances of finding a shiny version of it increase as long as the Pokemon keeps calling for help.

This takes is a tedious one. It may take hours for players to encounter a shiny version of the Pokemon. This method is proven as seen by some players posting their encounters and shiny catch. Aside from shiny encounters, the SOS feature is also a way for players to obtain low-leveled fully evolved Pokemon which they can train. For example, a player can obtain a low-leveled Salamence if they keep making Bagon call for help.

Aside from the SOS feature, players can also use the soft reset method in order to get shiny starters. Soft resets can be done by pressing specific button combination in their consoles to reset the game without quitting. This is use usually for better IV or better nature of Pokemon and for shiny encounters. It is also tedious because of the percentage of a shiny encounter rate but it works.
