BMW is coming with a new version of its electric car model for 2017 to take on "Tesla Model 3". "BMW i3" would receive a total revamped version that including changes in design and battery capacity are expected, by an insider report. The move is also expected to change the destiny of the premium car maker's electric car venture.

The new design changes include some changes on front and back of the car to include a battery with better capacity making it more efficient. It is important to note that the initial model was only having a battery pack for 114 miles and in July it announced that the new 2017 version BMW i3 would have 190 miles and now the firm further extends its battery package beyond 190 miles with the design change and modified battery.

It should be noted that the BMW i3 did not receive a warm welcome in the market and the reason was because of tge rumored less battery backup. Because of this, BMW i3 has only received 25,000 sales, whereas Tesla Model 3 just got 276,000 orders within 3 days of introduction. Tesla model found to be superior to BMW by both market analysts and customers alike.

The major differences surfaced between BMW i3 and Tesla Model 3 were its battery capacity. Most users found the 215 miles battery backup of Tesla found highly convenient, but BMW i3 could not convince the consumers with its 114 miles capacity. Also, the BMW i3 base price is $42,400 per official website, whereas Tesla Model 3 is available at a cheaper price of $35,000 base price.

The only aspect BMW i3 is found to outscoring Tesla Model 3 is in terms of acceleration and where the former can reach 0-60 mph speed in 4.2 seconds, but the later takes 6 seconds. The major advantage of Tesla Model 3 is it comes with Autopilot hardware, which helps it to convert to a driverless car in future. Since the initial delivery of Tesla model is expected in mid of 2017, the new version would help BMW i3 to be equally competent by then.
