With the looming release of the much-anticipated video game "The Last Guardian", Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia recently released a trailer showing the game's gameplay and introduction.

The lengthy trailer shows off an introduction to the game and some of its gameplay. At the start, players must navigate in a small cavern, where the giant griffin-like creature named Trico is chained up. The video also shows various puzzles that the player needs to do in order to befriend Trico and help him escape from his confinements. Players can accomplish this feat by feeding him barrels that are scattered in the game world. While having no weapon of sorts, players can use Trico in various ways such as using him as a stepping stone for high ledges and leaping great distances. Trico also attacks the guards that attempt to capture the player.

The animation used for "The Last Guardian" are realistic and intricate. Fumito Ueda's experience with his previous works, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, greatly influenced how The Last Guardian will turn out. Ueda's Ico and Shadow of Colossus are very much received by the public but didn't garner enough sales. The HD remaster versions  of the two games, however, did sell out millions of copies worldwide.

The Last Guardian's realistic gameplay and detailed animations are the product of its nearly a decade of development. The game has been in development since 2007. The Last Guardian was first introduced to the public back in E3 2009. However, Team Ico, the team behind The Last Guardian's development faced numerous problems, causing the game to be delayed multiple times. In 2012, the game was said to be ported to PS4 with Ueda remaining as its director. While speculations of it being cancelled surfaces, The Last Guardian's was introduced once more in E3 2015 where Sony Interactive confirmed that the game is set for release in December 2016.

The Last Guardian is scheduled for release in December 2016. Check out the trailer below.
