'Vampire Chronicles' Author Anne Rice Brings Series To TV Screen; Movie Plans Didn't Go Well?
Anne Rice, the author of Vampire Chronicles book series, has announced that she has obtained the theatrical rights to her famous book series. Not only that, she also plans to bring it to the small screen.
She said in her lengthy Facebook post that the theatrical rights to the "Vampire Chronicles" are in her hands once again. She added that a television series is her dream for Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius and for the whole tribe to receive the highest work quality.
Two film productions, Universal and Imagine Entertainment, acquired the film rights in 2014 to the vampire book series that centers on an 18th-century French nobleman who became a vampire. But for Rice, she said she realized that her stories are better for TV.
She said that she had the pleasure of working with Film people in connection with this plan but it did not work out the way she wanted. With that, she thought it is clear, now more than ever, that television is where her characters belong.
She and her son Christopher Rice will develop a pilot script and write a detailed outline for an open-ended project that faithfully presents Lestat's story in the books. Her son will serve as executive producer of the planned series.
Rice said they will, most likely, begin with the second book of the series called "The Vampire Lestat".
She was told by fans how they want to see a "Game of Thrones" style in her book. The good news for the fans is that she said that she heard them and will give in to their request/
Some of Rice's novels from the vampire series were already seen in the past. A 1994 film called "Interview With The Vampire" starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt based on the vampire series was shown to the public. The 2002 film "Queen of the Damned" is also inspired by Rice's novels.
