Findster Duo, World's First Free GPS Pet Tracker Debuts As Kickstarter Project
Letting the dog off-leash on public areas is one of most dog owners' worst nightmare. They can wander off and bump into trouble, or worse, they can go missing. Weary dog owners can now relax with Findster Duo GPS pet tracker. It is a Kickstarter campaign that promises to offer free GPS services for dogs on top of being a high-tech electronic leash.
The Findster Duo is set to roll out in December, and the company claims that owners of the device need not worry about monthly charges as the GPS pet tracking services will be free of charge. Other services like Link AKC Collar offer the same but they set you back up to $10 monthly. They offer monthly, annual, or 2-year subscriptions so the monthly due can go down up to $7.
This particular service, however, does not require its subscribers to shell out monthly fees after the gadget is being purchased. This is because the Findster Duo uses a proprietary local wireless technology named Maze. All the consumer has to do is purchase the unit and the dog is now tracked online.
What's in the package?
The Findster system bundles a Velcro collar attachment for its pet module, a separate guardian module that is very handy and fits in the pocket, and a USB charger for both modules. The Findster Duo modules can communicate for up to 2 miles. This means that the owner should keep in check if the dog is within range.
There is also a virtual 'fence' feature that alerts the owner every time the dog gets out of the set radius. Once the dog is far away enough, the guardian module sends an alert to the owner prompting him/her to go towards the dog's direction and remind the dog to keep within range. A virtual 'leash' is also available with similar features. A pretty handy gadget for dog owners who love the outdoors.
