Netflix 'The Crown' Season 2 Air Date, Spoilers & Update: More Political & Disastrous Events In The Queen's Reign
Contrary to earlier reports, "The Crown" Season 2 is underway. Netflix's "The Crown" original series showcases royal drama in the areas of love, family, and politics. With the first season coming to a close, the second season will feature more drama as the former ends with the Queen's struggle following Winston Churchill's resignation and the short tenancy of Anthony Eden plus the scandal that followed his short reign.
Clair Foy confirmed that "The Crown" Season 2 is currently filming for a month. She mentions that the second season will start in 1956, and will continue on up to 1963 or 1964. When the series reach the 60's, the scenario would be more exciting especially with the positive response that they've been getting.
The royal corgis will still be making an appearance in "The Crown" Season 2. Claire Foy adds that while she isn't a dog person, she loved them and is even concerned that they consume about a whole block of cheddar daily. However, Winston Churchill will be leaving the series as Claire Foy confirms that they will not be having scenes with John Lithgow in the second season.
Vanity Fair postulates that "The Crown" Season 2 will be more political. Following Winston Churchill's resignation as Prime Minister paved the way to Anthony Eden's reign. The tenure of P.M. Eden lasted 18 months when he resigned in disgrace which ended an era in British politics in a worldwide scale. His downfall began when the United States and the British pulled out funding for Nasser's Aswan dam project due to the Egyptian President's relationship with the Soviet Union and China which led to Nasser seizing control of the Suez Canal, an important passageway for the British trade.
"The Crown" Season 2 might continue with Eden's initiatives in seizing control of the Suez Canal. Suspecting that Egypt would obstruct Britain's commerce, Eden schemed with Israel and France to sequestrate the Suez Canal. The Suez Crisis proved to be a disgrace when President Eisenhower did not back Anthony Eden. When they attacked on November 5, 1956, Eden was compelled to arrange a cease-fire in 24 hours. The entire fiasco was devastating to the reputation of Britain as the ascendancy of American era starts, a disastrous event that reflects poorly on the Queen.
Netflix has yet to announce "The Crown" Season 2 official air date, but a source predicts it will release sometime in November 2017.
