Recently, rumors of Chandler Rigg's exit from "The Walking Dead" have spread online. The news began to spread when Chandler's dad posted a message on a social media site which sound like a farewell to the character.

Chandler Riggs, 17, has been on The Walking Dead since its first season portraying the character Carl Grimes. Following his dad's cryptic Facebook message, Riggs announced that he will be attending college soon.

William Riggs shared a photo of him and his son on Facebook along with the message: "Completed 7 years on TWD! #freedom #thewalkingdead."

He later posted another status that said: "Seven year contract completed! Grateful to AMC, cast and crew, TWD fan base and especially Chandler for always being 100 percent dedicated. Whether it was getting up at 4am, working in the freezing cold past 2am, leaving his friends and carefree kiddom behind, scrambling to make up, missed schoolwork, he has done it without complaint and always made me proud and amazed to be his dad!"

The Facebook status has now been deleted. But fans are still concerned that this could mean Chandler's exit from the show.

Fans last saw Riggs' character, Carl, on the latest episode of The Walking Dead titled "Go Getters" in which he sneaked in a van of the enemy to kill Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his men. This particular scene raises red flags on what the character's fate would be.

However, seeing as he is with Jesus (Tom Payne), fans expect Carl to live another day. In the comics, Carl successfully killed a handful of Negan's men but failed to kill the man himself.

It remains unsure whether or not Carl will go on with his plan now that Jesus is with him. Fans who have read the comic series The Walking Dead are also excited to see the peculiar relationship between Negan and Carl.

In Robert Kirkman's graphic novel, Negan took a personal liking to Carl due to the kids' guts. While it is still not confirmed that will happen on AMC's The Walking Dead, it remains one of the most anticipated scenario for the fans.

Should Carl proceed with his plan despite Jesus' company, does this mean he will be Negan's next victim? After all, the showrunners tend to switch things up from the comics every now and then.

It is highly unlikely that The Walking Dead would kill the Carl character off. Any fan who have read the comics know that Carl is a very integral part of the story going forward. But with Chandler's recent announcement, nothing is for certain.

If Chandler Riggs really is leaving the show, does this mean The Walking Dead's showrunners need to find a replacement for the actor? Fans are hoping this could just be all a misunderstanding. After all, viewers have watched both Chandler Riggs and Carl Grimes grew up before their very own eyes.

Catch The Walking Dead on AMC every Sunday at 9/8c.
