'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Release Date, News & Updates: Advance Tickets Available On Monday!
The epic and awaited advance ticket sales for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will start Monday in the United States, two and a half weeks before the Dec. 16 opening.
Disney's LucasFilm made the announcement on Thanksgiving night. Online ticketer Fandango said it would launch sales at 12:01 a.m. EST on Monday while Atom Tickets revealed a promotion starting Monday for exclusive products available digitally through its mobile ticketing app and website.
"Rogue One" is the first stand-alone movie in the franchise and opens on the same weekend as "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" did a year ago. That film set a U.S. box office record with $248 million in its first weekend after it had racked up more than $100 million in advance sales, then went on to a worldwide gross of $2.07 billion. Meanwhile, advance tickets for "Rogue One" showings in the U.K. began earlier this week.
Disney chief Robert Iger said recently that the studio is not expecting the film to do "Force Awakens"-level business because it exists outside of the main narrative of the seven previous films. The film is set in the era between "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and the original "Star Wars," released in 1977. A group of rebels tries to steal the designs for the Empire's first Death Star weapon.
Gareth Edwards directs "Rogue One." Felicity Jones stars in "Rogue One," alongside Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn and Forest Whitaker.
The film was voted in a Fandango filmgoer survey as 2016's most anticipated movie and said fans purchasing "Rogue One" tickets on Fandango will be entered into a sweepstakes for a chance to win a U-Wing model signed by Edwards, Fandango noted as reported by Variety.
Also, the Atom Tickets promotional items include a hoodie, t-shirt, girl's shirt and a limited-edition ticket placard.
