'Gilmore Girls' News & Updates: Cast Speaks About Returning To Set
Nine years after its final episode, Gilmore Girls is finally back on-screen, much to the satisfaction of the fans. Actors and actresses from the show talk about how it feels getting back in character after being gone so long.
After the announcement of the Gilmore Girls revival, fans have been eager and excited to know what will happen, and which characters are coming back. After all, it was reported that the show's final episode left fans dissatisfied and disappointed.
The mini-series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will be helmed by its original showrunner and creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino. Palladino said that this revival will offer closure for most of the fan base. The revival was created so fans and the showrunners can finally have the ending they've always wanted and deserved that they did not get from last time.
For the fans, getting back to watching the show means finding out whether Lorelai and Luke finally got their happily ever after. It means knowing who Rory ended up with. Lastly, it means finally hearing those final four words.
For the actors, however, returning to Stars Hollow was a different experience. It was more than just getting answers from the myriad of questions.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Milo Ventimiglia (who played Jess on the show) said "When a show ends, I never expect it to come back around I accept it and I move on. For me personally, it's less about stepping back into Jess's jacket and more about, I get to speak Amy and Dan's [Palladino] words one more time. That's the stuff that's exciting to me, where I get to play a scene with Scott [Patterson] or a scene with Alexis [Bledel]. The audiences want something story-driven. For me, it's a reunion."
Alexis Bledel, who plays Rory, also had something to say on her return to set: "It was really surreal to step back into it because there were certain things that seemed like time had kind of stood still."
Even Scott Paterson was impressed by the new Stars Hollow, "It was like coming home, but to kind of a new and improved Stars Hollow, actually. It was prettier. Luke's diner seemed bigger. I know it was the same size, but everything seemed newer and brighter. Everything seemed to sparkle."
Keiko Agena, who played Lane Kim, found it more enjoyable to film the revival compared to the original show. She said, "It was actually more fun and more relaxed shooting the revival than it was when we originally shot so many years ago.
"The vibe was celebratory, and I think everybody that was involved was happy to be involved and happy to work hard to bring a product that we hope people will really like and is worth all of the attention," Agena added.
The big question remains: will the Gilmore Girls revival be better than the original? Will it have all the answers? Fans will just have to wait and see.
