Oculus Rift Owners Can Now Enjoy Xbox One Game Streaming Starting December 12th
On December 12, Oculus Rift owners will be able to stream their Xbox One games directly into virtual reality headsets. Nearly 18 months after the feature was first launched, the new update will allow users to play their games on a large virtual display within their headset.
Be reminded, however, that the new feature will not turn your game into a VR experience, rather it will be more comparable to how Netflix currently works. You will still need to use your Xbox One and stacks of your favorite games, along with an Oculus Rift headset that is connected to Windows 10 PC to be able to enjoy the feature.
Right now, developers have yet to announce the other needed specifications of the game. Minimum network requirements are obviously required, and Ethernet will obviously work better than Wi-Fi.
Users are given the chance to choose among three virtual screen settings: Retreat, Citadel, and Dome. Kevin Unangst, Xbox's current senior director of global marketing said, "Once connected, your console's video output is streamed to your Rift headset and projected onto a massive screen in your choice of one of three immersive VR environments: 'Citadel', 'Retreat' and 'Dome'."
Xbox will still have to release the list of games supported by this new feature, but they already have a clue that users will be able to stream the likes of Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3, Halo 5: Guardians, and may more. It is said to be available among "indie darlings", "biggest sports games", and even on some Xbox 360 titles.
Microsoft also announced that Rift buyers will enjoy a free Xbox wireless controller for every purchase. This is a brave move for the company to persuade buyers to go for the Xbox One in case they also wish to take benefit of the VR.
