Apple Gadgets Were The Most Popular Gadget Gifts This Holiday Season
Apple dominated 2014 holiday season as iPhone and iPad were the most popular gadget gift this holiday season. According to a report, more than half of the new devices activated over this holiday season were of Apple.
The report released by Flurry - an analytics firm, owned by Yahoo! - more than 51 percent of new device activations were of devices from Apple, followed by Samsung at 18 percent. Microsoft was at number 3 because of its Lumia devices. According to the report, Sony and LG had only about 1 percent of activations.
"To put this in perspective, for every Samsung device that was activated, Apple activated 2.9 devices," Flurry said. "For every Microsoft Lumia device activated, Apple activated 8.8 devices."
"While, the holidays in general and Christmas in particular are not the sole indicator of the smartphone market share and trends, it is safe to say that Apple's newly released iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have had a blockbuster holiday season, despite a lackluster holiday season for the consumer electronics industry," Flurry concluded.
The holiday season was encouraging for app developers as well. According to Flurry, on Christmas Day in the U.S., the app downloads were 2.5 times than it was during the first few weeks of December.
Majority of the apps were downloaded on medium-sized phone (64 percent) and 13 percent of downloads were seen on phablets.
