Nicki Minaj Talks about Having an Abortion as a Teen
Rapper Nicki Minaj has opened up about an abortion she had as a teenager. The 32-year-old star, who recently released her new album, "The Pinkprint," talked about the haunting experience to Rolling Stone magazine.
"I thought I was going to die," the "Anaconda" singer said when she found out she was pregnant. "I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I'd ever gone through. It'd be contradictory if I said I wasn't pro-choice. I wasn't ready. I didn't have anything to offer a child."
Minaj was dating an older guy from Queens, NY while attending LaGuardia high school, a prestigious performing arts school located in Manhattan. Minaj added, reported by ABC News that the decision to abort was something that has "haunted [her] all [her] life."
"Millions of people are gonna hear it. And you gotta watch everything you say - people find an issue with every fucking thing," Minaj said in regards to her story.
In the interview, Minaj also stated that with the release of her album, she wanted to share more of her personal life.
"One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it's something I've kept very private," she said according to The Huffington Post. "I had to learn to do something as simple as sleep alone. I struggled with 'Do I express these feelings?' And I decided there's no reason for me to hide. I'm a vulnerable woman, and I'm proud of that."
The Rolling Stone issue will hit newsstands this Friday.
