‘Gilmore Girls’ News: Luke Was A Originally A Woman, Says Show’s Creators; More Revelations Here!
The creative team of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino has revealed that they initially thought of writing Luke as a female character in the hit television series "Gilmore Girls." In an interview with "Entertainment Weekly (EW)," Sherman-Palladino shared that she was told by the network to create another guy character for the pilot episode, so she just changed the name and was too lazy to change any of the dialogue.
According to the EW report, the character change did not affect the story's plot due to the unisex nature of Luke in "Gilmore Girls". The husband-and-wife screenwriting tandem mentioned that Luke's original name was Daisy. The undeniable chemistry between actors Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson, who are Lorelai and Luke in the story, is the main factor that kept their story arc growing.
Lauren Graham confirmed this chemistry with Scott Patterson. She noted that there was a "definite love interest" in their show "Gilmore Girls." She said that "It's just this funny, weird chemistry that we had in terms of being complete opposites and also this built-in conflict of he has the thing she wants - which is coffee."
For Scott Patterson: "You just never know about that kind of thing. You can get the two most talented people in the world together on screen, and for some reason, it just doesn't work. I knew it from the moment we met, and I knew it was going to work on screen. We just had a rhythm in 'Gilmore Girls'."
"Gilmore Girls" is a comedy series that premiered on October 5, 2000, and ran for seven years. The very popular series is set in a Connecticut town populated by dreamers, artists, and everyday folk. The multigenerational drama will return on Netflix on November 25 in the revival "Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life." Variety magazine has published its review of the revival, which commended the notable strengths of the show's ensemble.
