Giants Owner Brings back Tom Coughlin: “I Still Believe in him”
The New York Giants' 6-10 season was "an embarrassment," co-owner John Mara stated. Despite the poor season, the Giants will bring back coach Tom Coughlin and general manager Jerry Reese.
"I still believe we can win with him," Mara said in regards to Coughlin, who has been with the Giants for 11 seasons. "If I didn't believe that then it wouldn't have mattered how many Super Bowls he won in the past, it would be senseless to go forward with him. But I'm looking at how hard the players play for him and how attentive they are, and I look at his energy level and how much he still wants to win and how driven he is."
Even though Mara has faith in Coughlin's ability to get the team back on track for next season, when asked if 2015 would be a "win-or-else proposition for a lot of people in this franchise," he answered, "I don't think that's an unfair statement."
Couglin led the Giants to two Super Bowls. However, in the last six seasons, the Giants only made it to the postseason once. This year, the Giants have been riddled with injuries.
"I still believe very strongly in Jerry Reese," Mara added. "We still believe in this coach, this staff and our organization."
Mara cannot say the same for other people on the staff. Perry Fewell, the defensive coordinator, is reportedly on the hot seat.
