LG Ultra Thin 1.2mm Leaks, Specs; 'Wallpaper OLED TV' Set For Release In 2017
Leaked documents reveal that LG would be rolling out its Wallpaper OLED TV (organic light-emitting diode) next year. The OLED TV is a concept that was initially revealed last year, which is a wallpaper-like television that weighs mere 1.9-kilo grams and thickness of less than one millimeter.
The leak was initially reported by flatpanelshd, and was elaborated by CNet whose report further shows evidence from another source that the LG's Wallpaper OLED TV will be rolling out in 2017. CNet asked for confirmation from LG, but Tim Alessi, Director of New Product Development refused to comment but did confirm that some of the reports were not accurate.
While the reported leaks are to be taken with a grain of salt, based on the lineup of OLED TVs released, the model numbers could be "plausible." The current models like OLED65B6P, the report states, the sequence OLED 6, the "6" indicates the 2016 model. The leaked models in the WiFi Alliance come with a 7, case in point OLED55B7 which, the report guesses, is the entry-level flat OLED next-in-line of the B6 model. The rest of the models, the report speculates that the model numbers with "W7" suggest "wallpaper" the futuristic slim Wallpaper OLED TV.
LG had already expressed its plans of bringing the Wallpaper OLED TV to the market real soon, which validates the leak even more. CNet also takes a guess that the price point of the 65-inch Wallpaper OLED TV is at $10,000 per set. The report adds that more details are to be expected prior to the Las Vegas CES in 2017.
If the leaked documents are true, the models that will be in the 2017 lineup of Wallpaper OLED TV are B7, C7, E7, G7, and W7. With the tighter competition of TVs, LG will be the pioneering company that will unveil OLED TV with a revolutionary new hardware platform.
