The Walking Dead: Heart-Breaking Theory About Carl Grimes Only Die-hard Fans Know About

The Walking Dead is one of the most viewed shows in television, solely because it does not just focus on one or two genres. The show is not only a thriller, drama, nor a show about the undead. It is more than just that.

The show, which has been going on for seven seasons, was recently renewed for its eighth seasons. Surprisingly enough, writers and producers have not yet run out of material to use for their storylines.

One of the best things about the show is that it is more than just the living undead roaming the earth, it is also about people. People who are trying to survive, and going to great lengths in able to do so.

Take Carl Grimes, for example, the son of protagonist Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). The character, played by one Chandler Riggs, has lived through so much in his young life. Considering that Carl is only supposed to be 15 or 16-years-old at this point of the show, the boy has seen and lived through some difficult experiences.

Recently, a fan theory has been circling the internet regarding Carl's hair. As fans will know, his hair has been growing so long, looking rather unhygienic in the process. Now, several characters in the show have also grown out their hair, but they have gone through some haircuts before growing it out again.

Carl, on the other hand, has only been seen sitting for a haircut once in the show. Back in Season 1, Carl got a haircut from his mother, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies). Back then, Carl's hair resembled the simple cut of a schoolboy, neat and tidy.

Amidst all of this, Shane (Jon Bernthal) was sitting back in a lawn chair cleaning his gun while talking to Lori and Carl. This was the show's way of saying that perhaps one day, he would try to be the boy's father - as he did. Keep in mind that this was before any of them knew Rick was alive.

"You think this is bad, wait till you start shaving. That stings. The day comes you'll be wishing for one of your mama's haircuts." Shane said to the boy. In which Carl replied, "I'll believe that when I see it." And maybe, just maybe, that day has come.

Fans might have noticed that Carl has been growing out his hair since the death of his mother. Just two seasons after the said haircut, Carl stood over his mother, watching as she died in an emergency C-section in prison. Carl would then shoot Lori in the head to prevent her from coming back as one of the walkers.

Unsurprisingly, this would cause an emotional trauma to the boy. Maybe him not cutting his hair is a nod to his deceased mother. Fans will also remember that several characters have offered to cut Carl's hair, or suggested that he get a haircut. However, Carl avoided such and continued to grow his hair to the length it is today.
