Kimi no Na Wa Inspires Matchmaking Events in Japan

Kimi no Na Wa is still hitting it off in Japan. Makoto Shinkai's movie has been topping off the movie charts in Japan in weeks, making it the country's highest-grossing film in 2016. Because of its success, Machicon Japan is organizing matchmaking events where fans of the movie gather and share their insights and thoughts about it.

The event takes place at Baru & Dining in Shinjuku, Tokyo last November 5. The event is open to everyone over the age of 20. The event focuses on people and fans who have seen the movie to share their thoughts about it like what is their favorite scenes, who is their favorite characters and what they think of the movie in general. Spoilers are bound to happen in the event so it's highly suggested that you watch the movie first. Since it is a matchmaking event, it is encouraged to the people present to make new friends through their love for Shinkai's film.

To those who are interested may still opt for the Osaka event. The event will be held on November 12 at the No Name Cafe in Namba.

Kimi no Na Wa (your name) follows the story of Mitsuha Miyamizu, a female high school student who lives in a rural town and Taki Tachibana, a male high school student who lives in Tokyo. One day, Mitsuha dreamed of being a male high school student in Tokyo while Taki dreamed of being a female high school student in a rural town in the mountains. The movie became Japan's highest grossing film in 2016, surpassing Disney's Frozen who earned 25.4 billion yen and earned the third spot in Japan's highest grossing film of all time, next to Spirited Away and Titanic.

Shinkai's movie has also been submitted for Oscar Consideration. The movie is submitted under the category for Best Animated Feature at the 89th annual Academy Awards. The movie is set for its viewing at Los Angeles' Laemmle Music. Funimation will release the movie in Los Angeles' Laemmle Music and will serve as the qualifying run for the Oscar consideration.
