It was earlier reported that the movie will remain faithful to the original adaptation of the series. According to executive producer Michael Costigan, he said that they'd be following what the anime originally is for the live-action movie. Johansson also talked about how to create Major's character and how she would move in a body that's not entirely human. The movie also experienced some issues during production such as its casting decisions.
