The physical custody of the six children of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will remain with their mother, despite Pitt's preference to have joint custody when he filed for his responsive pleading last Friday. In a statement released by a representative of Jolie, it was clarified that the former couple signed a legal agreement over the matter.

When Brad Pitt filed his responsive pleading checking on the box designated for joint custody over their children, a divorce expert commented it may disrupt the current settlement negotiations, which include the six kids. However, last week, Pitt and Jolie have come to an agreement that the six kids shall remain under Jolie's care.

"We can confirm that childcare professionals have encouraged a legal agreement accepted and signed by both sides over a week ago," the statement's opening reads, "In accordance with this agreement, the six children will stay in their mother's custody," it says, adding that the therapeutic visits by Brad Pitt to the six kids will continue.

Also according to the statement, the agreement about the custody of the six children was determined to be in the best interest of the kids by the childcare professionals. As regards the full details of the agreement, the statement says they are not in a position to discuss the same.

"We hope now that it is clear that the events which led to the dissolution filing involved minor children and their well being, there will be understanding of the sensitivity of the family situation," the statement continues to read as quoted by The Guardian. It also appeals to the pubic to be considerate about their situation as both Pitt and Jolie "are committed to healing the family."

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had been married for two years, but they had been together since 2005. Their divorce was sparked by an altercation between the couple with the interference of their eldest son, Maddox.
