Alicia Keys Says 'It's About How 'Snow White' Was Spoken About That It's Sexist & Misogynistic;' Wants To Ensure Racism Issues Tackled In America
Alicia Keys admits she is a hands-on mother who believes her life of late is a design for her to raise boys, in an interview with a magazine. The 35-year old Grammy Winner thinks that children learn form their mother, something that is already ingrained from their babyhood. With that, the singer is selective about the movies her children can watch.
Of all the classic films especially for children, Keys singled out "Snow White" to be one movie she will not allow her kids to watch. Although there is nothing wrong about a woman who stays at home and serves her family, it is the way the story was "spoken about" that she does not agree.
"Have you watched Snow White lately? I get real funky about the classics; I don't like [my sons] watching it," Keys said when she talked about her being a mother, her passion for massage and her recent engagement in meditation. Lately, she made headlines as she campaigned for raw beauty: no makeup.
"It's totally sexist, misogynistic; she's cleaning for seven dwarfs," Keys explained as quoted by The Edit. Keys, who grew up in Hell's Kitchen, is also an activist who focuses on racism.
Before her "Secret" gig last Friday Night at Times Square, Alicia Keys shared with The Guardian her thoughts about politics as a segue when she was interviewed for her latest album, "Here." She openly supports Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton who, according to her, is proof that women can be powerful as well.
"It's emotional for me as a black woman, wanting to make sure that all the issues are addressed in America when it comes to race, when it comes to black people-wanting to make sure that message is not lost," Keys said as quoted by The Guardian. Her sixth album entitled "Here" was released on November 4. A single entitled "Blended Family" from the new album was earlier released.
