With the 20th-anniversary events like legendary giveaways as well as the upcoming release of Pokemon Sun and Moon, there's a possibility for remakes of the older Pokemon games. Pokemon's creator, Game Freak, is eyeing the possibility of doing remakes of older Pokemon Games such as FireRed and LeafGreen.

According to Game Freak's producer, Junichi Masuda, the company is very much interested in doing more remakes after the successful remake and porting of the first generation games into the 3DS console. "I think the remakes, like Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, is still an approach we're interested in. With the Virtual Console releases of the original games, specifically, there had never been a way to bring those Pokemon over to the latest generation. It had always been that you couldn't get those Pokemon out." Masuda said to IGN.

Masuda also claims that the remakes of the original games were re-tooled to fit the Virtual Console because of the 20th anniversary of the franchise this year. "With the 20th anniversary, it was the right timing to release the original games. I think that we want to give people the experience of bringing these Pokemon from the original Game Boy and seeing what they look like in Pokemon Sun and Moon. That is some that I want people to enjoy." Said Masuda. The Poké Bank and Poké Transporter allowed the original versions of the games to be released for the Virtual Console. This made trading of Pokemon from the older generations to the latest generation (XY, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire). There is no news about Pokemon Silver and Gold to be ported to the Virtual Console.

Game Freak first tackled remaking the existing Pokemon games, Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green for the Game Boy Advance back in 2004, naming them Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen respectively. The remakes hosts updated graphics as well as new features while retaining the original concept of the game. Their next set of remakes were the Generation III games', Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire and ported them for the Nintendo 3DS. Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire were remade in such a way to cater both new and old fans of Pokemon. Graphics were enhanced as well as features such as Mega Evolution from Pokemon XY were carried over in the remakes.

The seventh generation of the franchise, Pokemon Sun and Moon is slated for release in North America on November 18 while November 23 for Europe.
