It seems like inappropriate Halloween costumes had become a trend year after year. This time around, Hilary Duff and her boyfriend, Jaston Walsh became the subject of debates after their failed pilgrim-Indian inspired costumes at the Casamigos Tequila Halloween Party.

Duff and her boyfriend/trainer showed up at the party dressed in a sexy pilgrim and a Native American chief. Walsh wore a headdress paired with red face paint, while Duff was in her pilgrim's top and hat. This is the very first red carpet appearance of the couple, after both of them confirmed their relationship last month.

The two had not escaped the scrutiny of the public, saying that their look was too racists. Others also pointed out that the costumes are more offensive when taken into consideration the real score between the Native Americans and the pilgrims. Even fans of the actress did not find the costume acceptable. They expressed their disappointments towards the wrong choice. Some people commented that the two should have considered the spite is going around wherein Native Americans are arrested for their protests against the North Dakota Access Pipeline.

Wearing sexualized Indigenous costumes had been a debate among First Nation groups every year. They call the custom as culturally insensitive. It seems though that people are just tired of celebrities not becoming sensitive enough to research their Halloween costumes.

After hours of Twitter controversies, Hilary Duff had finally apologized for what they wore. She wrote on Twitter: "I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costume. It was not properly thought through, and I am truly, from the bottom of my ❤️sorry."

Last year, Chris Hemsworth also apologized for dressing like a Native American during his New Year's Lone-Ranger themed party. He admitted that he was "stupidly unaware of the [offense] this may have caused and the sensitivity around this issue."
