Kendall Jenner’s Accused Stalker, Found Not Guilty
In the Hollywood Hills home of model and reality star Kendall Jenner, a 25-year-old man was found guilty Monday of trespassing. But jurors in the downtown Los Angeles courtroom acquitted Shavaughn McKenzie of a misdemeanor stalking charge, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Los Angeles police arrested McKenzie on Aug. 15 at Jenner's home in the 1600 block of Marmont Avenue, according to jail records. Jenner had pulled into her driveway that evening and spotted McKenzie, who tried to talk to her, E! Online reported at the time.
Deputy City Attorney Alex Perez said in court that McKenzie, had tracked Jenner's whereabouts for 15 months before his arrest. He noted that McKenzie has never said how he learned that Jenner had moved to the hilltop home tucked away from the street and accessible only after driving through a 13-foot gate, According to USA Today.
Jenner, 20, called police and McKenzie was later taken into custody on suspicion of stalking. Defense attorney Taylor Shramo told jurors Monday in his closing argument that McKenzie did not want to scare Jenner when he showed up at her gated home. McKenzie's lawyer argued that McKenzie just wanted to speak to Jenner.
Jenner, the daughter of Kris and Caitlyn Jenner and the younger sister of Kim Kardashian West , had testified during the trial that she recognized McKenzie from two previous confrontations in Westwood. "I've never been so scared in my life," she said.
A forensic psychiatrist hired to evaluate McKenzie testified that he was delusional and his efforts to locate Jenner were part of his mental illness. McKenzie's mother June Osavio told jurors she repeatedly tried to get help for her son, but he refused to take his medications. He disappeared in March 2015 after they moved to Georgia, she said. McKenzie faces up to six months in jail for the misdemeanor trespassing charge, according to LA Times.
