NBA Rumors: Derrick Rose Expresses Two Big Fears As he Goes To Trial For Rape Case
New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose recently expressed his biggest concerns when he went on trial for sexual assault allegations.
The 28-year-old player was slapped with sexual assault charges by a woman who chooses to remain in anonymity, alleging that Rose along with a few friends had raped her in August 2013. She was seeking a total of $21 million: compensatory damages for $6 million and punitive damages amounting to $15.5 million.
Rose maintained his innocence throughout the duration of the trial. He was able to finally breathe a sigh of relief last week, when he was cleared from the said charges during the hearing in Los Angeles. In a report by Stefan Bondy for the New York Daily News, Rose says that while he does feel vindicated, he also feels sorry towards the accuser.
"(I feel a) little bit (vindicated) but at the same time there was another person that was involved in this so if anything I've just been praying for myself and praying for her because the issue is very big in the States and everywhere."
Rose is one of the brand new additions to the New York Knicks roster, after he was signed in a blockbuster deal last June. But with his trial, he had missed a good amount of training sessions with the team, as well as some pre-season games.
Yet, despite his predicament, Rose says he remained focused all throughout the ordeal. But at the same time, he also revealed what he was most concerned about, as he dealt with his predicament.
"I was focused the entire time. More than anything, out of all of this, the only thing that really hurt me was missing my son's birthday party, missing his birthday and his birthday party," Rose admitted. "Those were the two things that I was worried about the most."
