Minneapolis will be the first U.S. city to get 10GBPS of Internet connection - fastest residential connection worldwide. 1GBPS connection is already available for $65 per month.

The service is being offered by US Internet which already has a couple thousand customers with 1GBPS connection. The 10GBPS connection will be immediately available to existing US Internet customers.

"The launch of our 10 GBPS Internet service will make Minneapolis the first city in the world to receive access to the Internet at speeds never before experienced in our country, or any other country for that matter, both in terms of 10 GBPS download and upload speeds," said Joe Caldwell, Co-CEO of US Internet.

US Internet has already installed a small number of fiber lines in the Minneapolis, which can provide the ludicrously fast fiber-to-the-home service to close to 30,000 households.

The offered service will be a symmetrical one - both uploads and downloads will be available at the same speed.

The company hopes the super-fast offering will make the Internet service market in the U.S. more competitive. It also plans to install fiber optics along the I-494/I-694 corridor of the Twin Cities - along long term plan estimated to take five to six years.
