Kansas City Chiefs star runningback Jamaal Charles recently suffered an experience that may be familiar to some college students on move-out day.

Charles bruised his foot while carrying a box from the dorms at Missouri Western State University to the parking lot, according to ESPN. The team had just broke training camp.

"He came down a grassy slope there and just kind of rolled his foot over on the curb," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said per ESPN. "It was that simple. That was it. He went up to [trainer Rick Burkholder]. ... He was hurting that night, and the next day he woke up and he was feeling a little bit better, and he's feeling better today.

"We're optimistic about it. Initially there was some concern. He had all the stuff done on it, the X-rays, the MRIs and all that done on it. Everything is clear."

Charles did not travel with the team when they visited the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, North Carolina. The team suffered a 28-16 preseason defeat to the Panthers on Sunday night.

In other Chiefs news, wide receiver Dwayne Bowe is one of the latest players to face a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Bowe will miss one game, the Chiefs season opener vs. the Tennessee Titans, due to marijuana use. He will be allowed to play the remainder of the team's preseason schedule.

"I am extremely sorry that I can't be on the field for the first game of the 2014 season because I made an error in judgment," Bowe said Friday through a statement made public by team, according to the NFL website. "I take responsibility for my mistake, and it will not happen again. I hope that my teammates, coaches, and Chiefs fans accept my sincere apology. I will be supporting my teammates in week one, and I cannot wait to get back on the field to help us win in week two and beyond as we work towards our goal of winning the Super Bowl."

The Chiefs season opener against the Titans is Sunday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. ET.
