‘The Accountant’ Wins The Box Office As The Ben Affleck Starrer Grosses $24.7M In The Opening Weekend
"The Accountant" starred by Ben Affleck, became the box office winner of the weekend with a whopping $24.7 million. The Warner Bros. movie is directed by Gavin O'Conner and it is an action thriller but the critics give mixed reviews to the movie. The movie features Affleck as a public accountant and autistic mathematician, who also has connections with criminal organizations. Per the pre-release estimates the movie was supposed to collect $15 million to $20 million but it has beaten the expectations.
The Accountant produced at a cost of $40 million, has got good approval from the audience, reports Los Angeles Times. It additionally grossed $2.8 million from other territories and made total collections $27.5 million worldwide. The movie actually released in 3,332 theaters across North America was competing with fellow releases "Max Steel" and "Kevin Heart: What Now?"
It can be counted as the continuation of the wonderful partnership Affleck keeps with Warner Bros., as their 2014 collaboration "Gone Girl" was a huge hit and reportedly collected over $360 million at the box office. "We are been to Ben Affleck business and we are very much proud of that. We did a lot of movies with him and planning to do plenty more," said Jeff Goldstein of Warner Bros. in an official statement. Kevin Hart starred "Kevin Hart: What Now?" from Universal Pictures, came second in the list with $11.98 million, which is made out of mere $10 million, made profit in the box office with the weekend collection. It has also received excellent reviews from critics and audience alike. Another thriller "The Girl on the Train" from Universal Pictures, spotted on third with a gross of $11.97 million in three days that adds up the domestic total to $46.6 million, per USA Today.
