'The Blacklist' Season 4 Episode 4 Updates & Spoilers: How Far Are Liz & Tom Willing To Go To Find Agnes? Can Red Be Trusted?
"The Blacklist" Season 4 Epside 4 begins with Liz (Megan Boone) and her husband Tom (Ryan Eggold) as they attempt to save their daughter from Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) who has taken her in order to save his life. In order to do this however, they may have to work with and trust Red (played by James Spader) lest they lose their only chance to rescue Agnes before it is too late. They have to watch out though, as Kirk is a smart man and will do all he can to make sure he keeps Agnes.
In "The Blacklist" Season 4 Episode 3, it was revealed that Kirk was suffering from a rare genetic disease. This was why he kidnapped Liz, claiming she was his long-lost daughter. He needed her to help extend his own life.
In the "The Blacklist" episode, titled "Miles McGrath," Red informs Liz that Kirk needed someone that had enough genetic similarity to him, hence why he needed a family member to survive. As Red pointed out to Liz, "That's what you are: a collection of cells. This isn't about saving you from me. This is about saving you for him."
As shown in the promo trailer for episode 4, titled "Gaia," Liz was able to escape, forcing Kirk (her alleged father) to resort to plan B by kidnapping his only other family, his granddaughter Agnes. Liz and her husband Tom are determined to prevent him from realizing his goal however, and the former FBI profiler is willing to turn to any means to ensure that her baby is back, safe and sound, in her arms again. This includes trusting Red with helping her out. But will he? After all, he was tricked by her into believing she had died in Season 3.
In an article on The Futon Critic, it is revealed that, in a synopsis: "As Red sets Liz and the Task Force on the trail of an eco-terrorist with a mysterious connection to Alexander Kirk, Tom takes matters into his own hands."
There is also the hint that we may see the return of Mr. Kaplan (Sarah Blommaert) as Red's foe this season. In the previous episode she had begged Red to take her back after she betrayed him. He shot her instead though, unknown to him, she survived.
As Jon Bokenkamp, executive producer, shared with Entertainment Weekly in an interview, "Red values loyalty above all else, and Mr. Kaplan betrayed him in the most impossible way. Remember, Reddington killed Newton Phillips in season 1 by suffocating him with a plastic bag from a funeral urn. He shot an old woman (Diane Fowler) after she betrayed him. Hell, he shot Pee Wee Herman! The man is ruthless. In Red's mind, Mr. Kaplan had to go."
Episode 4 of "The Blacklist" Season 4 premiers on October 13, 2016 10 p.m EST, on NBC.
