Miracle Baby Born With Two Heads In India, Dies After 32 Hours

A miracle baby boy was born in India with a rare condition. The boy had a single body with two fully formed heads attached to it.

Weighing about 2.5 kilograms (5lbs 7oz), the baby was born on Oct. 3 to a 20-year-old mother at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College. The doctors were shocked upon seeing the condition of the child who was surprisingly healthy.

It is the first pregnancy of a 20-year-old mother who decided not to have a regular checkup with a doctor during her pregnancy. With that, they were not aware that their child will have two heads. The mother's pregnancy was normal until the end of term.

When news about the baby spread in India, many people flocked to get a view of him. But although the child was healthy at the time of birth, he showed breathing problems later on.

Dr. Jaiprakash Narayan, an assistant professor of the pediatric medicine department, weighed up whether to operate on the baby or not. It appears that the condition is more complex since all the organs are one and only the heads are two. The baby also had two hands as well as two legs. Because of that, it was impossible for the doctors to operate on the baby, Mail Online reported.

Despite the condition, the parents of the baby quickly discharged him from the hospital. Hence, the child went home while suffering from severe breathing problems. As a result, the miracle baby died 32 hours after birth.

It was reported that the baby suffered from Dicephalic Parapagus. This is a rare condition in which there are two heads on the same body.

"We have been able to identify that 2.2 per cent of babies in India are born with congenital anomaly," Dr. Anita Kar, from the Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences of the University of Pune said, according to The Indian Express.

"In absolute numbers, this translates into nearly [600,000] babies being born each year with congenital anomaly, with heart defects being the most prevalent condition," she added.
