Telecom carrier Sprint has announced that it will allow customers with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to exchange their unit for any other smartphone in wake of the recent shocking incident of a replacement Note 7 exploding in a flight.

The company has said it will exchange all Note 7 units no-question-asked while the issue is being investigated.

The incident which occurred recently on a Southwest Airlines flight resulting in its cancellation is being probed by both Samsung and federal agencies. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has said that it is working "expeditiously" to establish if the replacement devices approved by the Commission were defective. Samsung said that it will be able to share more information once it recovers the device from Southwest and is able to identify the cause of the explosion.

Sprint has however decided to take a proactive approach to the issue.

"Sprint is working collaboratively with Samsung to better understand the most recent concerns regarding replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones," said a Sprint representative to Recode

"If a Sprint customer with a replacement Note 7 has any concerns regarding their device, we will exchange it for any other device at any Sprint retail store during the investigation window," added the Sprint spokesperson.

Samsung has recalled all the original Note 7 units which it said had shipped with a defective battery, which caused the phones to explode and catch fire. The company has launched several remedial initiatives such as refund and undertaken numerous measures including rolling out a software patch to prevent the units from exploding.

It started shipping out replacements after they had been deemed safe by it and federal agencies, and recently restarted sales of the Note 7 model.

Most of the other carriers are yet to respond. T-Mobile has said that it has resumed sales of the model and will continue doing so. With respect to returns, the carrier said that its standard policy for returns which is return 14-days will apply.

No comments are available from other carriers AT&T and Verizon.
