Ohio man had sex with up to 100 corpses
An Ohio man has admitted to having sex with nearly 100 corpses over a timespan of more than 15 years.
WCPO reports the man is Kenneth Douglas, who worked at a Hamilton County, Ohio morgue between 1976 and 1992. He worked the night shift during that time.
The heinous acts came to light as a result of a federal lawsuit filed on behalf of family members of the deceased. They sought damages from Hamilton County because of the degradation their dead family members suffered at the hands of Douglas. A federal court ruled that Hamilton County was liable for damages.
Hamilton County was found liable for damages because the court ruled that the morgue director failed in his duties "recklessly." This is because Douglas' wife called the morgue and its director a number of times to complain about how her husband would come home from work.
In a deposition to the court, Douglas' wife said that she called the morgue and its director numerous times to complain that he would come home stinking of sex and alcohol. Despite these complaints, Douglas was never investigated or fired.
The deceased women Douglas would have sex with included those who died of natural causes, and murder victims. His assaults on murder victims are how his crimes were revealed.
In 1991, 19-year-old Karen Range was murdered by a salesman named David Steffen. An autopsy revealed semen in Range's vagina, and while Steffen had admitted to the murder, he denied ever raping her. When it turned out Steffen's DNA did not match that found in Range, a wider investigation was launched.
Douglas also admitted to smoking crack before going to work at the morgue. He said that if he refrained from drug or alcohol abuse, he would not desecrate the women's bodies.
