‘Criminal Minds Season 12’ Episode 2 News & Update: ‘Sick Day’ JJ Breaks Down, No Send Off for SSA Aaron Hotchner?
"Criminal Minds Season 12" episode 2 titled "Sick Day" centers on JJ and how a tough case has affected her. She went home as usual after solving a case in Los Angeles that involved two children.
Why did it affect JJ?
In the second episode "Criminal Minds Season 12", the team is dealing with an Unsub who they termed as a "sadistic pyromaniac." The Unsub was burning two children at a time. Being a mother, JJ of course is going to be affected the most compared to the other members of the BAU.
JJ narrated the story the story to her supportive husband, Will. She described the mother of the Unsub's latest victim, a 16-year-old girl named Francesca, as a "working mom who's trying to do her best just like everybody else." JJ added, "She's was just like anybody, you know." Her husband answered back by saying, "Just like anybody or just like you?" This was the first hint in the episode that JJ was getting emotionally attached to the case.
As the case progresses, the BAU team was able to narrow down a possible suspect but they were too late because the Unsub also took the Francesca sibling's Roberto. Penelope was able to locate the victims. JJ together with Luke was the first on the scene. Luke followed the fleeing Unsub as JJ was trying to rescue the victims before they burn to death. JJ was successful in rescuing Roberto and the Unsub's sister, Tricia.
But when it's time to save Francesca, the whole place exploded before she could get to her. JJ admitted to her husband the guilt that she's feeling because she wasn't able to save Francesca. She said that she realized that she made a choice of saving Roberto first because he reminded him of her sons. Needless to say, "Criminal Minds Season 12" episode 2 hits JJ closer to home.
