Netflix has released a quirky trailer for its original series "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events," starring Neil Patrick Harris to be released in January 2017.

The production is based on the bestselling series of 13 books by Lemony Snicket or Daniel Handler which has three Baudelaire orphans - Violet, Klaus and Sunny- thwarting the evil ploys of their guardian Count Olaf who wants to grab their inheritance left to them after the mysterious death of their parents in a fire.

Netflix is making an eight-part series with Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf and Patrick Warburton as the narrator Lemony Snicket. Joan Cusack stars as Justice Strauss, Malina Weissman is Violet Baudelaire and Louis Hynes is appearing as Klaus Baudelaire.

Offering a first look into the series, the trailer has Warburton walking through the set of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" giving a glimpse of the décor and costumes of the show, and delivering an unexpected monologue asking viewers to not watch the series.

"Please don't make the same mistake that Netflix has, and look away before this dire tale is even filmed, and avoid the cruel whimsy and whimsical cruelty of what's to come," says Warburton.

As Warburton talks about how "utterly unnerving" the series is and low the moral is on the set due to the privations suffered by the orphans, a voice comes across off-screen singing, and its Harris!

So while Warburton is the only cast member to appear in the trailer, Harris makes his presence felt strongly and suggests that we might get to see him singing. Harris is of course an accomplished singer having performed on Broadway in musical plays.

Netflix announced the adaption of the book series in 2014 and it is being produced by Barry Sonnenfeld and Handler.

The book has been earlier adapted as a movie in 2004 by Paramount Pictures which had Jim Carrey in the role of Count Olaf.

Get a tantalizing glimpse into Lemony Snicket's mystical and "full of wonders" world with this trailer.
