Apple Launches Interactive Game of Thorns Books That Includes Excerpt For The Winds of Winter
Apple is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of Game of Thrones' iconic 'A Song of Ice and Fire' with the launch of "Enhanced Editions" a digital book available exclusively on iBooks. Further releases spread over the coming months will cover Book Two through to Five.
These digital versions of the book will provide the reader an immersive experience into the fascinating world of the series. Readers can explore a character's history, house lineage or bring up secondary material among many other things.
"We're now entering a new period in the history of publishing," said author George R.R. Martin. "The digital book gives readers the ability to experience all this rich secondary material that had not been possible before."
The interactive nature of the book A Game of Thrones: Enhanced Edition is aimed at bringing alive the experience while enhancing appreciation and understanding. A comprehensive and "visually stunning" Appendix section has information on all 92 house sigils giving readers an in-depth information of the houses, their allegiances, region and symbolisms.
" These enhanced editions available only on iBooks include sigils and family trees and glossaries. Anything that confuses you, anything you want to know more about, it's right there at your fingertips. It's an amazing next step in the world of books," added Martin.
The cherry on the top is that the book includes the excerpt for much-awaited Book Six in the series, "The Winds of Winter." According to a Guardian report, the excerpt was earlier available on Martin's website, but is now available only in the Enhanced Edition.
The book retails for $8.99 at the Apple store. Upcoming books from Book Two to Five can be pre-ordered for ($11.99).
This is the second time that Apple is offering an interactive experience to fans of a popular series. The 'Harry Potter' series was also adapted for Enhanced Editions, which had exclusive author notes and animations.
