Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts have officially announced they are ending their relationship after being together for 11 years, saying that this is the best way for them to move on as a family. This was relayed through a statement they release on Monday, September 26.

A few weeks before Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts announced their separation, Schreiber posted a photo on Instagram with both them smiling together in their selfies promoting their film "The Bleeder" which was about to hit the theaters at that time. An article from People, however, said that there were signs that the couple have already been experiencing some problems in their relationship for the past months. In a TV Week interview, three days before the breakup was announced, Schreiber acknowledged that both of them were struggling to spend time with each other.

"That has been one of the things that have been really, really hard for Naomi and I. To find time for each other and to make time for each other," Schreiber said. "I think that is what makes a successful relationship."

Watts and the couple's sons, 8-year-old Alexander Sasha and 7-year-old Samuel Kai, lived in New York while Schreiber spent much of his time shooting his show "Ray Donovan" in California. On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Schreiber also acknowledged that being away from his family was difficult.

After 11 years, Schreiber and Watts finally decided to end their relationship. Both have carefully discussed their relationship and after a few months, they finally decided that separating is the best option for them to move forward as a family as reported by CNN.

According to Vanity Fair, Schreiber and Watts are carefully considering the well-being of their children especially that their two sons will be adjusting to a new set-up where both of them are already separated. They concluded the joint statement about their breakup with a request for their children.

"It is with great love, respect, and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship. While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy."
