Fitbit has pretty much ruled the activity tracker market with its powerful yet affordable device Fitbit Charge HR that allows users to monitor and track fitness levels with innovative features like continuous heart rate-monitoring, sleep tracking, dashboard for stats via the app and motivational reminders.

But for some time now, the earlier version was seen to be in dire need of an upgrade. After two years of its launch Fitbit announced a month ago that it was releasing an upgraded model Fitbit Charge 2.  The Fitbit Charge 2 is now available worldwide and can be purchased from all major retailers.

Priced at $150 the product has mostly received favourable reviews, with one reviewer calling it the best fitness tracker ever.

Fitbit has exhaustively redesigned the Charge product adding key necessary features missing in its earlier versions resulting in better tracking, improved synchronization and better looks including a bigger screen. The small screen in the earlier version was a major complaint for users which is now fixed with a  large OLED screen.

Some of the new features introduced are a Relax Mode that urges mindfulness and focused breathing, movement reminders, automatic tracking of a workout, and cardio fitness scores. The Connected GPS feature links to the GPS in a smartphone and Multi-sport modes allows tracking of 17 specific workouts like weights, runs or yoga.

Although still a little large in size, the Charge now offers the option of different coloured bands - blue, black, purple, and teal - made in leather, turning it into a  more versatile and stylish wearable.  A major issue that the previous models' bands suffered from was peeling and skin irritation. Reviewers have commented that this issue has been sorted in the latest upgrade. But the device is unfortunately not waterproof.

While a health tracker at its core, Fitbit has also a few features that make it somewhat of a smart watch. The Charge 2 alerts users to a new call or text message although it doesn't give notifications for social media. The battery life of the device is 5 days on a single charge.
