Assange Wants to Leave London Embassy Soon
Julian Assange, Wikileaks founder, said on Monday that he intends to leave Equador's London embassy "soon".
However, Assange's spokesman said that this could materialize only if Britain relents, Reuters reports.
It's been more than two years since Assange started living inside Ecuador's London embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden on charges of sexual assault , which he denies.
"I am leaving the embassy soon ... but perhaps not for the reasons that Murdoch press and Sky news are saying at the moment," Assange told reporters inside the Ecuador embassy.
Sky News, part owned by Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox, had earlier reported that Assange was mulling to leave the embassy due to failing health.
It is reported that Assange might be suffering from a lung and heart condition.
Britain has been relentless in its pursuit of extraditing Assange who has spent more than two years in Ecuador's London embassy, so as to avoid extradition to Sweden.
He would be arrested by the British authorities if he exits the embassy as he has breached his British bail terms.
Meanwhile, Ecuador's foreign minister Ricardo Patino said that Assange would continue to get protection from its embassy, according to BBC.
His spokesman stated that he could leave due to changes in the extradition law. But some reports are skeptical of his release based on health grounds.
The spokesman added that Assange did not want to surrender to the police.
Assange also fears that if Britain extradites him to Sweden he would then be extradited to the United States where he could be tried for leaking American activities in Iraq and Afghanistan.
