Backstreet Boys Give Surprise Performance at iHeartRadio Music Festival Perhaps Previewing Their Las Vegas Residency
Fans at the iHeartRadio Music Festival held in Las Vegas this weekend got a surprise when popular boy band Backstreet Boys decided to perform a few of their hits thrilling the audience at the T-Mobile Arena.
Band members Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson sang a mini set of their 2000s hits before joining country stars Florida Georgia Line for a joint rendition of the hit "Everybody ("Backstreet's Back)."
The performance was possibly a sneak peek into what their recently-announced Las Vegas residency would look like.
The band announced late last week that they will be having their first every residency at Las Vegas in March 2017. The live show billed as "Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life" will be hosted at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino and is expected have 18 concerts, going on up till July 1.
"What can you expect from the show? If you've ever been to a Backstreet Boys show, it's going to be that on steroids," said Brian Littrell in a video announcing the show. "Can fans expect to see all the hits? Of course."
The initial 2017 show has been called a trial residency, with more dates being possible depending on audience reception. The tickets go on sale from Oct. 1.
Backstreet Boys join a string of top artists who have staged residencies in Las Vegas recently. Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Britney Spears are just some of major stars with successful Vegas residencies.
McLean said that the inspiration for taking up the Residency came from Britney Spears.
"She literally said, 'This is the best job ever!'" said McClean. "She said that it's hard work, but easy in the sense that you get to be with your family more than when you're on tour, and have somewhat of a normal life."
