Jim Carrey Accused Of Giving Ex-Girlfriend STDs
Jim Carrey's ex-girlfriend Cathriona White was allegedly suicidal because she had found out that she had contracted STDs (sexually transmitted disease) from Carrey according to the lawsuit filed by her husband.
Mark Burton, White's ex-husband who has initiated a wrongful death lawsuit against Carrey for giving her the drugs she used to commit suicide on Sept. 28 last year, has amended the lawsuit to add that Carrey had given White STDs and then lied about it.
"I will not continue to stand idly by while Mr. Carrey and his handlers deceive the world about what they did to Cat," said Burton in a statement released on Thursday as reported by NY Daily News.
According to filings made as part of the lawsuit, White had a conversation over text with Carrey in Feb. 2013 when she informed him that she possibly had an STD. On conducting tests, White found that she had Gonorrhea, Herpes Type I, and Herpes Type 2.
Apparently Carrey told her to keep mum on the subject to which she agreed. The lawsuit documents include the texts exchanged between the two.
Burton has claimed that in the days leading to White's suicide in September she had written to Carrey a letter, saying that she was now "damaged goods" and would be unable to be with someone else.
While White was still married to Burton at the time of her death, they had not been living together for some time. Carrey's lawyers have alleged that she had married only so that she could stay on in U.S and not go back to Ireland.
Although he is yet to comment on the fresh allegation, Carrey has earlier called the lawsuit a shame.
"It would be easy for me to get in a back room with this man's lawyer and make this go away, but there are some moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world," said Carrey in response to the lawsuit.
Carrey's lawyer Marty Singer said the lawsuit is "an outlandish shakedown," calling it an attempt to profit off White's death.
